What is information security?

Oxford dictionary states that it is the way of protecting information, especially electronic data, from being used or seen without permission. Information can either be physical or electronic. Therefore, to have an effective business, organizations need to keep both their physical and electronic information safe. 

Information security is nothing but the act of guarding information by getting rid of any information threats. Hence, it is a fragment of the (ISMS). The ISMS ordinarily includes preventing or at least decreasing the likelihood of unapproved/unseemly access to information, or the unlawful use, exposure, disturbance, removal, defilement, change, examination, recording, or degrading of data.
