Allow riders a full lane

Cyclists must use a bicycle lane (a part of the road designated for bicycles) if one exists. They have the right to ride on a route that does not exist or is impassable. This is demonstrated by riding in the middle of a lane.

They may require the entire lane at times due to particularly rough road margins or gravel. Slow down to give them plenty of room to get away from the curb.

When bicyclists are within 1.5 meters of one another, they can ride two abreast (side by side). They could be passed by another cyclist.

Keep your distance when overtaking

If the speed limit is less than 60 km/h, leave at least 1 meter between you and the rider; if the speed limit is greater than 60 km/h, leave 1.5 meter.

If other cars blow their horns in an attempt to encourage you to pass a cyclist, keep your cool. Proceed only if you are sure in the security of the site.

If you have a clear view of approaching traffic and it is safe to do so, you may cross single and double white lines to pass a bicycle.
